Day 32, October 12, 2017, Arzua to A'Rua, 11.8 miles

This was going to be a short day and we decided not to be heroes and took a taxi to the starting point. We started our walk at 9. It was a little foggy, but lovely. We walked along quite steadily and got to our first stop, A Calzada, by 10:30. Did our usual coffee break and moved along. Again, the going was good. Gentle slopes, very green and lush scenery, and a ton of people.

We walked on to Boa Vista and stopped again because we wanted to get a stamp on our passport and I wanted to put more glide on my feet.   There were some unique cafes along the way, like this one with a beer bottle collection:

After this stop we came across a wisdom wall which had a bunch of little sayings and questions that made a lot of sense. It was a very cool wall. We continued on until Santa Irene at 16.5 kms. and stopped to drink some water. From here, it was a very short walk to A'Rua. We were there in half an hour and stopped at a bar to celebrate with a beer. In getting my beer, I noticed the fresh ham ready for slicing....the hoof was a real turn-off!

As soon as we had got there Dennis came over and also a new friend, John, from Toronto. We had a nice little chat with our beers and then our taxi came to take us to our hotel, Casa O Muino de Pena, which was an old converted mill.

The lady who runs the place picked us up.  She drove like a maniac to her hotel after picking up four other people; we didn't think we would make it alive to her hotel. Hoo boy!!

There were two adorable dogs - a scottie and a lovely blond labrador. The place had a lot of potential but was run badly. The lady was not a very polite person and came across as really rude. The place had a lot of potential but was completely mismanaged. Our room was okay but the bathroom looked like it had mold. The only saving grace was the really excellent dinner that she prepared for us. We met a delightful pair of ladies from Madrid - Marta and Aram. We had dinner with them and really enjoyed ourselves. This was our last day before we walked into Santiago. We were all excited and headed off to bed quite early.
