Day 30, October 10, 2017, Portomarin to Palas De Rei, 15.5 miles
We left Portomarin around 8:20 in completely dense fog.
We walked for a bit before we got out of town.
Then we climbed up steadily on a fairly steep slope and in a little over an hour we got to the first cafe at Gonzar. We met a lot of people we had seen from the last month as well as new people we just met from Sarria. After coffee, we continued on in the fog until we climbed above it to Castromaior. We had lovely views of the fog below and the surrounding countryside. Our walks in Galicia, as I may have mentioned only a million times before, have been so lovely.
After Castromaior, we walked to Vendas de Naron and stopped again for a break. We found a lovely cafe that was part of an albergue. After resting for a bit, we continued on to Ligonde, where we saw a cross commemorating pilgrims. There are lots of these on the Camino. By this time we only had 9 kms left and felt quite strong and able to go on. We passed through a number of oak and pine forests. In addition to these, there were quite a few eucalyptus forests as well.
As always, it was a pretty walk with plenty of shade and lovely gardens to view. Even though it was a long walk, it didn't feel like that and we were soon at Palas de Rei. We walked into town and headed to the church. Got our second stamp and walked to our little bed and breakfast, Casa Leopoldo, which is run by three sisters. They are the sweetest ladies and we were made to feel very welcome. We walked down to CC Pulperia where Lisa had her first Galician Pulpo or octopus.
She enjoyed it and I enjoyed my - what else!! - eggs and we walked back to write the blog. I felt so lazy yesterday and missed writing the blog. So made up for it today by doing two days in a row.
