Day 28, October 8, 2017, Triacastela to Sarria, 13.5 miles
We headed out around 8:30 a.m. We had a choice of two routes - one through Samos with no climbs and 6 extra kms. or through San Xil with stiffish climbs but shorter. Guess what we picked - yes, lower mileage!!
Our path was dreamy - very verdant, with a light mist and the sun beginning to make an appearance.
We have also seen so many beautiful flowers in the gardens including some very unique dahlias.
It was cold - 48 degrees F. But we faced a really stiff climb almost right at the start. This helped warm us up and we were chugging along at a good pace.
We hit San Xil after a really stiff climb and the started descending. We came across many little villages without any cafes until we hit Aguiada where the other path joins the Camino.
After a brief coffee break we walked continuously to Sarria (6kms) and came to our hotel without any difficulty. We are at hotel Alfonso IX, a large and comfortable hotel with elevators. Our luggage hadn't arrived but came when we were having lunch. We are now headed out to see the churches (what else) and anything else Sarria has to offer. Oh, and by the way, our tally for 4 weeks of walking is 373 miles...whew!
