Day 12, Sep 22, 2017, Burgos - Hornillos del Camino, 14.4 miles

We set off from Burgos, again along the river in the park. It was a lovely start to our morning. We went along out of the city, past the University of Burgos, which is a huge and very modern campus, to the rural areas out of the city.  It was a very pleasant walk for us. There was a lovely tail wind pushing us along. The sun was gentle. It was quite idyllic. We walked past fields of sunflowers

and even ran into a shepherd moving sheep.

We chugged along until Tarjados, around 7.5 miles in. We had a cafe con leche (of course!!) and a rest. We met a couple from Dallas - John and Elaine. John had retired about three days before they flew out to walk the Camino!!! We had a pleasant walk until the next village of Rabe de las Calzadas. Here we stopped at the Ermita - a tiny little church where there were two nuns, who stamped our passports and gave us a pendant dedicated to SeƱora Nuestra de Camino.

We then continued our walk to Hornillos with a very gradual climb. We had our lunch break at the top (hard boiled egg, dried figs, water) and then started the slightly steep descent into Hornillos.

We got to Hornillos and we had been told to wait for a taxi to go to our hotel in the next village of Isar (off the Camino). Our gps told us it was only 2.7 miles away so being the studly beings that we are, we decided to walk there. It was not a bad walk and we got to Casa Rural La Consulta de Isar in good shape. We have a lovely, if basic, room. We also had dinner with a whole bunch of other peregrinos from Canada and California. Now, I’m done blogging and soon off to bed. I can’t believe we are down 12 days now and have only 21 days left!! It’s off to Castrojeriz tomorrow.
